Devein clean and wash shrimps.Smear little salt and turmeric and set aside for 5 minutes.Meanwhile cut lauki and peel the outer skin.Chop into 1 inch sticks.Wash and drain water completely.Heat 1 tbsp oil and fry the shrimps.Set aside.Add 1 more tbsp oil.Sprinkle cumin,fenugreek and fennel seeds.Add 1 dry red chilli and bay leaves.

Add chopped lauki,shrimps,turmeric,red chilli powder,cumin powder,salt and sugar to taste.If the lauki is tender,it can be cooked directly.Otherwise steam or pressure cook 1 whistle only.Then cook.Lauki should be soft but not mushy.The preparation should be totally dry.If needed sprinkle little water while cooking.Add chopped coriander and toss.Garnish with green and dry red chilli and serve with rice.For vegetarian,green peas can be substituted for shrimps.
